Social Physique Anxiety (SPA) is the self-consciousness about ones body in a social setting. Research on SPA as caused by the gym environment informed the design of Keelo, a system for educating and tracking the workout experience through an interface and updated equipment. The deliverable for this project is a standardized interface across selectorized weight machines. The more broad design goal is to lessen comparison and promote exercise motivated by health.

Inspired by professional wakeboarder and amputee Brandon Robins, YuMi (pronounced “You-Me”) encourages a return to an active lifestyle. Named after the traditional Japanese laminate bow, YuMi uses cost effective materials found in the sport of archery to naturally store and return energy during moments of heightened activity.
This project was a collaboration with UW’s Center for Commercialization. The proposed concept was for a device used to identify symptoms of shock in patients. The solution consists of a non-invasive probe attached to the patient’s hand, that is tethered to a portable device. This device; which can be mounted bedside near the patient, then evaluates and displays the sensor’s readings.
